Hello!
I have just bought a bonsai tree - I’ve always wanted to own one. I did a lot of research before hand but never came across that some bonsai trees are toxic to cats. I’ve read this now and now I’m not sure what is best to do.
My cats are indoors, and my bonsai is indoor. I can lock off the room with the bonsai, so the cats can’t chew at the leaves, but I’m worried if me pruning the branches etc will be enough to poison them. Or if even the bonsai in the house is enough to poison them.
Has anyone got indoor bonsai with indoor cats, and if so is there any advice?

First of all, cats do real well indoors and can go years only going out to go to the vet.
Secondly, trees don't do well indoors. There are essays on the subject every day here for details.
Most plants aren't that poisonous and after a leaf or two the cat or dog will learn and avoid. You may have a mess or two to clean up. Look the species up to see what ot says.
My first bonsai was an azalea. I very carefully and timidly cut a branch a little shorter, then another, and pot the pot outside on a shelf. That night a cat came by and sharpened his claws, removing about 3/4 of the branches and leaves. It was really beautiful. Maybe your cat will be just as good a bonsai artist.

I’m taking it to the garden centre again tomorrow to ask them to identify what one it is, as the label is just generic

Hello! I also dreamed about the bonsai tree for many years, but I have never known before that any species toxic to cats. Thanks for the information. We have ordered a special
so they could play and sleep there. Indeed, they love it a lot and spend a lot of time. More than that it helped us to resolve any problems. Bored cats love to scratch up and destroy curtains, couches, and scratch rugs and furniture. But with such a tree they concentrate all their energy on it and do not spoil anything in the house. Now, I'm afraid to take bonsai because if they will climb on it, and it hurts their health

Yes, cats do climb on trees, and you need to call the fire department to get them down. With bonsai it is a lot easier, as my son has several fire engines with ladders long enough to get the cats down, and we don't need to call anyone. Of course if you don't have kids with fire engines, you still need to call someone.
We don't have cats, but I have various anti-cat devices around my bonsai, as local stray cats love to walk on my bonsai shelves, and used to kick down the bonsai that were blocking their way.
