In the words of Paul McCartney, "Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah let it be, speaking words of wisdom let it grow". Take the remainder of 2020 to keep it alive and look at pictures of bonsai of similar species to see what you think you'd like for it to look like. My guess is that the most common malady for first-time bonsai enthusiasts is to over-water or mistreat the object to death. The most important step in the life of any plant is survival. Enjoy that experience first and wait for next season to get courageous. :)

Thanks a lot for your time!

If you want to follow the aesthetically-pleasing classical bonsai lines then there are a couple of fundamental "mistakes" in this tree. 1. The trunk is straight (no "movement") and 2. The branches are exactly opposite one another. At this stage of its growth, both "mistakes" can be corrected without much trouble/effort.

Would you care to elaborate? How should I fix those mistakes?

If you agree that it needs more "movement" (it's a matter of taste) you can wire the trunk and carefully bend it ... or plant the trunk on an angle if that is more to your liking. It would be difficult to think the opposite branches are attractive so choosing alternate branches to save and remove the others is the simplest way to "cure" it. Of course, it's your project so maybe you like it just as it is. :)

The opposite branches you are describing- are you referring to the branches coming off from the trunk? Are the branches highlighted with orange lines the ones that are opposite?
