Hi all I'm struggling with ideas on what do to with this bonsai being so large. I think its root bound so need maybe a larger pot and new soil mix.
What would happen if I prune then smaller branches right down? Would the tree survive such a drastic operation.
Looking for ideas and inspiration.
Thanks guys.

I think it would be best to just let it get stronger first. I do not think this would be caused by being rootbound. More likely, it has just suffered a dark winter.
Once it is used to the sun and it arms up, water often, fertilize. Once you see the tree really getting bushy and strong.. Trim and wire. Once the plant is full with new buds, some 2 weeks later, repot.
I play things by looking at the plant and its responses. So a bit hard to say for sure, but I think this would be my approach.
