You would be better putting it outside right now. In uk they might make the winter outside as well. Where i live it is much colder in winter and i keep mine in an unheated greenhouse.

There is no problem and never has been keeping Chinese Elms in the natural environment, -12C is easily withstood.

Here is a photo of my chinese elm. It's been on my windowsill for months now and seems to be thriving. Will even soon need another trim. Perhaps best to keep her here for winter then if Elms can handle good range of temperatures?

Do I need to soak the seeds first?

Hot is a relative term. We were in Windsor in July and thought it was warm. Northumbria was comfortable but they thought it was hot.

Trees become comfortable with the environment where they evolved. I would follow their calendar. Spring seeds w as not to grow in the spring. Fall seeds want to spend winter cold and then sprout in the spring after experiencing cold winter weather.

They can take wide Range of temperatures as long as it is in line with the season. Room temperature in winter is as bad as freezing in the middle of the summer. Put it outside!

Absolutely. Humans are warm blooded the comparison with plants is irrelevant. What Chinese Elms cannot handle for long is the conditions in a house, especially in winter, too warm and too dark. Been there done it and killed them

So it would be better to move it to the grow house in winter? I got the Chinese Elm to be an indoor bonsai to brighten up my office space.

Put the elm outside if you want it to survive and buy a Ficus or Carmona for the office, they are better suited to indoors.

Now I'm more confused than ever as I have read a lot of places saying Chinese Elms can be indoor or outdoor, and popular first trees because they are hardy trees. Sorry to sound stupid I'm just trying to learn as quickly and efficently as possible.

Thank for letting me bug you all

(Also, thoughts on my Chinese Elm in terms of appearance?)

Check the tree species at the top of the empire homepage, it will tell you how best to care for your Chinese Elm.
I admit it all is a bit confusing at the beginning. Keep researching and asking questions.

Your Chinese Elm looks healthy enough. What kind of soil is it in? Looks like the stuff mine arrived in which you should change as soon as you can. I find a mix of Akadama/Lava Rock/Molar Clay to work. I too am in the UK.
