No Winter Dormancy

Hi everyone,
I was recently given a trident maple that wasn't allowed to go into a proper dormancy. The previous owner let the leaves fall off while it was outside (late October here in VA) and then brought it indoors for the winter. He gave it to me in March, at which point I placed it outside. It has buds and the branches are still green and pliable but there are no leaves.
Any idea if the tree will grow leaves again? I'm a novice--I've kept my other bonsai alive but I've never had to revive one like this (but it was free, so I figured why not give it a shot).
Thanks.

yeah, normally, it should. Just put it in a semi-shaded spot and wait. It needs some convincing it really is spring but warm temperatures will do that.
