Cherry Blossom 名媛直播 / Keeping 名媛直播 Indoors was created by JessGauthier

Hello!
I'm a beginner and I've ordered some prunus pendula and some prunus serrulata seeds (I'm very ambitious). After doing a bit more digging I've read that only tropical trees are "ideal" for indoor living. Does anyone have any advice for:
1. Keeping cherry blossoms indoors?
2. Will they still flower if kept indoors?
3. What tropical species are best for beginners (to be kept indoors)?

Also, can someone with experience confirm if bonsai trees can survive the winter outdoors if they are potted, or do they have to be planted in the ground to survive? I'm located in New Brunswick (Eastern Canada). We're currently having a household debate.

1. It's quite common to keep cherry blossoms indoors here in Japan. In March, flower arrangements typically have some cherry twigs in them, in full bloom.
2. If you cut a twig off a tree before the buds are open, and put it in a vase, the buds will open indoors. In fact, they will open almost immediately, because its so much warmer inside.
3. No idea.

Usually the cherry twigs taken inside die in a few weeks (or days). But if you take good care of them, they flowers drop, you get leaves on them, they can survive for some time. A few times, I've actually got them to start developing roots in the vase, and in principle, you could them plant them in a pot and keep them for longer (so far, no success). But once your cherry tree is in a pot, it belongs outside. Period. Come spring, you can take it indoors for a week or so to enjoy the flowers in your living room, but that's it.

名媛直播 must be kept outdoors during winter, or they die. They are kept outdoors in their pot. If it gets really really cold for a long time (like below -20C for several weeks), you should take care that the roots don't freeze, because that can kill them.

PS. If you start from seeds, it'll take many years (3-5?) before you see any flowers, and you only get the flowers when the tree wakes up from its dormancy.

In New Brunswick I would expect to leave them outside until weather expects to drop below -10C or so all the time, then put them in an unheated room that would keep temps somewhere around -10. A greenhouse type place where sun gets in would be nice if you can keep it from getting too cold.
Bill Valvanis in Rochester, NY, moves his trees into a huge garage and keeps temperatures at 27F, which might be a little warm, but he certainly knows what he is doing.
If you can find a bonsai club close, they could tell you what works there.

Tropical species for beginners: none.
Contrary to what people think there is no such thing as an indoor tree. The tropical species do need warmth, but also a high humidity, and let that be something that we dont have in our homes. You can find dozens and dozens of posts here on this forum of people asking and trying the same thing.. about their dying or dead "indoor" tree. DON'T do it !!!
