What you have is a so-called Ginseng Fig. Typically ficus retusa. It looks very unhealthy so for now I would allow it to enjoy warm temperatures, dappled sun. Donot let the pot dry out. Do not soak it with water. You are after just moist.

In my twisted mind, I just see a picture of an elephant standing on its back legs smoking a cigarette.
Dont get me wrong. You can learn a lot about taking care of a tree with this plant. That can come handy if you shoose to try creating bonsai in the future. But this tree Will never become a bonsai.

Your focus should be on trying to get it healthy. Once you manage that (which I doubt is still possible, tbh) you can think about what you want to do with it.
