Hey, my name is Ashton and have been reading through this site lately. I have been meaning to create an account to identify my bonsai once and for all. This also gives me a chance to further research what it needs. I have looked through the bonsais listed on this site and I still haven’t found my bonsai specimen. Any tips would be appreciated too!

What you have is a so-called Ginseng Fig. Typically ficus retusa. It looks very unhealthy so for now I would allow it to enjoy warm temperatures, dappled sun. Donot let the pot dry out. Do not soak it with water. You are after just moist.

Dont get me wrong. You can learn a lot about taking care of a tree with this plant. That can come handy if you shoose to try creating bonsai in the future. But this tree Will never become a bonsai.

This is such a frequently popping up discussion that I wrote out some ideas behind the remark on my site:

currently it is just-not-dead-yet.

Your focus should be on trying to get it healthy. Once you manage that (which I doubt is still possible, tbh) you can think about what you want to do with it.
