Pyracantha dying! Heeeeelp!!! was created by Moneo

Hey all!

Something's been munching on my Pyracantha, the leaves are yellow-ish and with some spots, although I don't think it's scabs. Also I can't see any slime lines, so I don't think it's snails. But also I didn't find any caterpillars either. Is it possible something is coming for a meal and than crawling to wherever it came from?

So shall I use some fungicide, pesticide or both (can I even use both?) (please see pics)

Could be a caterpillar or a slug or snail, it is not dying look under the leaves, around the pot and under. Insecticide and fungicide will not kill anything that you do not identify first!!!

Thanks! Any idea about the spots on the leaves and the weird colour?

I water it every few days when it gets a bit dry and its standing in afternoon sun.

Old foliage drops, especially when new foliage comes in. So that could be causing the yellowing. Aging of the leaves.

I could imagine certain beatles coming in for a night time snack, or snails. Have you gone to the tree an hour after nightfall to see what is on there?

I found the problem I think! These small insects are eating the leaves I believe! What the hell is that and how do I get rid of them?

Don't know what I am supposed to see, still think it is slug or snail possibly caterpillar. There maybe something else there but I don't think they are the problem.

The leaf in the middle of the picture has a "dot", which is actually an insect. If you zoom in, you might be able to see it.

I put salt around the pot overnight - untouched, so it must be living on the tree. But I couldn't see anything and it can't be in the soil as I repotted the tree last weekend (the damage was there even before). I know there is a spider living on the tree...I know it sounds ridiculous, but could it be that? I'm just running out of ideas...

This is done by something larger. A snail or a beetle.

Spiders do not munch on trees.

What did a night time check show?

I doubt salt will tell you anything

Well I heard salt is deadly for slugs and snails and also I could see nothing went through... Wait. Caterpillars don't care about salt... Damn! :-D

Night check revealed nothing. I'll be monitoring the tree next few days and apply the insecticide when it comes..

Also I heard from other people that the colour of the leaves might indeed be just shedding after winter as spring comes, so it's a good news.
