HELP!!! was created by Angus98

Hi All,
I'm concerned about the health of my Japanese maple bonsai tree. While I was on holiday in Japan at the start of this year, my family took care of my small bonsai collection. Based on what they described, my maple was misted frequently (leaves and roots/soil) but not watered thoroughly. When I returned home after 2 and a half weeks at the end of February (end of our spring in Australia), all of the leaves on my maple were shrivelled and fell off very easily. I pruned the dead branches and took off all of the remaining dead leaves. Since then, I have noticed a black colouring on the majority of the upper half of the tree. I have attached a photo of this. Any thoughts on what the issue may be and what I can do to rectify it would be very very greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Angus

stems turning black like this reflects dead tissue at that location: The branch is dead. The base of the plant has some life left but I doubt it will be enough to resprout. Probably the roots at some point dried out and now slowly the plant is drying out.

Put it in a shady spot. Keep the soil moist but never wet. Wait and see whether it has the life left to come back. I do not have high hopes :(

End of spring?? Where in Australia is february ens of spring?

I am sure leatherback gave you the correct diagnosis. However care might be different if you are approaching fall as Most of Australia.

Yes end of summer my bad! Thank you for your comments. It's a shame to hear that it's not likely to survive but I'll give it my best and we'll see what happens.
