Adopted a Ficus tree. Now what?! :D was created by Ficus Balackay

Hello bonsai Peoples!

I just recently adopted a ginseng grafted ficus tree. I have cared for the health of the tree under control, but the pruning towards an end goal is a daunting task. It seems to have been cut back drastically at the trunk and adapted by growing a new apex branch just next to the cut. with this chop on the trunk, I am stumped (no pun intended) on what kind of future design I want to be working towards.

I have been considering trying to promote either upwards or sideways growth but how do I tackle that? is it even appropriate to tackle such a task?
Is the tree too small to consider future options?
Should I let it Grow freely throughout this season?

I have attached a picture of my lovely little friend for your viewing pleasures.

Any advice is considered helpful... Thank You.

Great that you managed to get it back to health, but if your goal is to make it a bonsai, that's not daunting but impossible.

This type of houseplant is discussed on this forum frequently. The answers are usually the same, so let me refer you to one of these posts:
