Hello, I'm new to bonsai. I have been reading a little about the topic and feel was time for me to make the jump and buy a tree.
I purchased one from the . advertised as a Zelkova.

I know chinese elm and zelkova are very similar and care is almost identical but it would be chinese if i can identify my plant.
Either way i'm keeping it.

I know they're usually misidentified for import reasons but am very unsure if this is a chinese elm or a zelkova.

Would appreciate your expertise on the matter.

I realise the main way to tell them apart is the leaves so here is the picture of the leaves.

Chinese elms were exported as Zelkova's to avoid regulations on elms, that could have Dutch Elm disease.

Thank you, I shall have a word with the seller. Still a beautiful tree. Anything I should look for that may suggest this one may have dutch elm disease?
I read somewhere chinese elm were naturally resistant to dutch elm disease? Unsure how true this as I need to research a little more chinese elms now.

Yes, resistant, but not imune.

Highly resistant, as the article on Wikipedia says.



Not sure why you want to have a word witht he seller?

The seller is probably just a retailer who gets a tree with a label attached, Mark's it up, gets an order, and ships it. Their response will probably be that's what the wholesaler said it was.

Yeah i agree, the seller will sprout the wholeseller labels this way etc but it's really dishonest labelling this as a zelkova when it isn't. Luckily for me. I dont mind, I just wanted to get started into 名媛直播. Got a lot of reading to continue so I don't kill it
