Hi
my friend gave me this today. Any idea what it is. Can bonsai ever be revived.
I repotted it and chopped some roots.
it doesn't look hopeful though.

No hope whatsoever to identify it and even less chance it is alive. It is just a lump of wood.

Yes, It could be alive.
You should not have pruned the roots if no leaves were showing up, even in Spring.
Now I would wait, watering only when the soil feels dry, outdoors, in dappled sun.
And pray.

ok il keep watering it.
ive put it in my conservatory overnight. in day il take it into the sun.
I don't want it to get too cold.

no, trees dont like to be moved around. keep out side in a location as mentioned in previous post. also telling us your location or climate helps and can possible result in better info.Rajsta wrote: good idea?

This is a ficus, probably dead looking at the bark. Keep it for certainty. Just place it in a well lit, yet not sunny, spot. Nice and warm. Then wait.

It's actually easy to identify - a braided ficus, IKEA type. Houseplant, not a bonsai.
