Hi all!
First off, thank you for any advice and your time.
I am new to this, reading a lot and really enjoying the process.
I purchased a 3-5 yr old Chinese elm, amongst 4 other species, new shoots were already spouted, did not report, kept it indoors overnight and on nice days (in Oregon) place it on the patio in direct light x 5-7 hours a day, rotating every day. Otherwise on north facing window as home has minimal south Windows. I have been watering it when dry when about 1/2 inch below the surface (fertilize every 2 wks when watering with dyno gro 7-9-5 with three rounds of ten second gentle pours with the first pour water and 2nd and 3rd with fertilizer mix).
My question:
Are the leaves indicating lack of water? Because lately, past 2 weeks, I’ve noticed it has been becoming drier quicker. I fear overwatering so could have been my problem. Typically watering 2-3 times a week and most daily.
Also, I was wanting to repot it but fear if in trouble want to allow it to be stronger before stressing it.
I haven’t pruned it because think I should let the base of the shoots become wooden before pruning to allow stronger branches, again could be totally wrong on this as I read a lot of conflicting opinions on this.
Anyways, any advice would be awesome. I just want to keep this alive and do all I can to not kill this poor little thing.
Thanks so much!
Wayne
The first photo is when purchase and the others are now with one pic showing where I place it outside with his buds lol
