Yes all the tree's you mention, needs to be outside, and need a winter period for dormancy. (Put them outside in spring, let them adjust to the sun, every day an hour more ,starting with only morning sun, to full sun, takes about 2 weeks)

You plant is still small, if you want a bigger bonsai i would put it in the ground for a few years, or a bigger pot.
Or if you want a smaller bonsai, you could give it a wireing and make it a bit more intresting to look at. And that won't take 15-20 years.

With only 3tree's you might want to start a few other projects, so you keep practicing.

Where are you located? Saying put them outside without knowing what zone your in, and what weather you have now, is not wise.

I - and many others - have said it countless times on this forum. Actually, I think it is said on the forum at least once a day: trees belong outdoors.

Brilliant, I have three oaks, three sequoias and one pink Judas tree. I have a rough idea of where I want to get with each of them but I have so much to learn and the more I read, the more I realise how little I know at the moment.

They're currently in pots. I want to get them used to being outside for a while before I plant them. I haven't started with the fertiliser yet, I plan on starting in a month's time.

Just a quick comment on growing from seed. While fun to do it is a quite long term project as you been told. In addition not all seedlings grow to be decent bonsai materials. Maybe 5% or so will be suitable for bonsai. That is why People buy garden center stock or prestyled trees.

If you are serious about growing bonsai. Get yourself more mature trees to start practising on. Seedlings dont give you any practice in the art of bonsai f?r many years.

I'm pretty sure all those heathy trees you can see outdoor don't mind much about your weather... ;-)
