I have a seigen maple that was six fee tall, last years thirty below Temps almost killed it, I had to cut it back. It is now about a foot tall, it really bounced back with many new branches. I want to dig it up, and use it for bonsai material, I live in Wisconsin. What advice can you give me about moving forward with this. when should I dig, what size container should I use, put it on a tile etc. Thanks a million.

According to the BE suggestion:
"For most 名媛直播 tree species the best time to dig out 名媛直播 trees is during the early spring, just before the tree starts growing."
I think maples go very well in wooden grow boxes, flat but large. Yes, if the root system is shallow and healthy, screwing the bottom of the trunk to a wooden tile (not plywood) is a known technique to create a flat nebari in the long run.

I would guess not plywood to avoid the glue, which is an unknown hazard to the tree?

nah, plywood just is very weak and falls apart after a year or two in the ground (Unless you take the very expensive, outdoor variety).
