I'm only reporting from my limited experience: obviously I'm just a practitioner, and a relatively recent one at that (probably 6 years now); I'm very far from being a master in this. TBH I'm usually quite cautious about what I see done by professionals, as there may be a lot of knowledge in what they do that I may be missing.

Also, I don't know the video you're referring to, but some characteristics (like how well the tree recovers from pruning) can change quite a lot from one specific species to another: what he does to a certain spruce species may not apply to a different one.

I'd say build your knowledge with what you can find around and go ahead ;-)
