Hi, I need some help with my Ficus Microcarpa Ginseng (Bought in Ikea like 2 years ago)
I live in Finland and here winters are quite cold. When I bought it years ago, it took a while to the bonsai to adapt to my house, started losing leaves and drying but then it went better when I found the correct amount of water and bought a special light to simulate the sun.
Now I'm having a similar problem plus some extra ones that I will explain to see if someone can help me
This is my bonsai

1. I'm having some problems with the soil:
A. It has some kind of spider web that covers the whole root and if I clean it appears again.
B. It also has some small white mushrooms that appear few months ago.

2. Leaves:
A. Some part of the bonsai has big leaves and some others smaller size leaves (the small ones are already "adult" leaves not just born ones) they have even different color, the big ones are darker. Is it normal?
B My house is always quite dusty even if I clean every day, so the leaves have a permanent layer of dust. What is the best way to lean dust from the leaves without making any damage to them?

C. I have many dry branches, in some of them no leaves grow and in some others just grows some small leaves in the end part. How can I solve this?

Don't worry about the soil. It is normal tohave some fungal activity in the ground.

This type of plants are grown first as a trunk by a fast growing species. Then all branches are chopped off, and a small leaved, slower growing species is grafted on it. What you see as large leaves, are the real leaves of the trunk. The small leaves are the decorative species grafted on top. In order tyo keep the small foliage, you have to clip off the large leafed branches.

In general, your plant is probably standing too dark. It might be too cold. And the air is dry. Ficus like heat and light. Winter is hard for them.

I have a LARGE ficus benjamina in the living room. Growth stalled in October. Now that the days are getting longer I expect to get a flush of growth again, once we get a week of sunny weather. Might take till march for that to happen!

Thanks for your answer.
If I understood correctly the only thing I can do is wait that the weather gets better. Is it so?
What about the dust cleaning of the bonsai, do you know if it is necessary and how to do it?
What you mention about the big leaves, should I cut the whole branches of big leaves? That should help to grow back the small/ decorative ones?

Sorry for so many questions, but I'm new in this of taking care of bonsai.

Thank you again

You can put it in a spot with lots of direct sun, which can help.
Removing the branches with large leave will stimulate the tree to invest in growing the small leafed variety, yes.(I personally would remove all the small leaf branches, but that is a whole different discussion and NOT what I recomment you doing (I would not have bought the plant to start with)).

Removing dust? Put it in the show and with luke warm water wash them. Be gentle though!
