But the question is serious.
To put it into the right context:
This below was my last Serissa.
It died out of the blue, like all Serissas do: same position, same watering, same soil, the only new factor was... Summer.
So I took care not to leave it in full sun in the afternoon shading it after 1 o'clock PM.
But it died, of course.
Today, after watering the bench it was stuck under (a corpse after all) I noticed some green.
SUCKERS!
Bad news is suckers, good news is some roots are still alive.
Question: Should I let this large leaved suckers grow to start all over again, or should I pull them off in the faint hope that the tree sprouts something from its branches?
As a side note, haven't I told you I HATE SERISSAS!? I still do.

Over and over again people cry out "suckers" or "weeds" as if the bonsai will die any moment. I myself don't like suckers stealing the energy of the branches, but in this case as the branches appear to have died, I agree with you, Leatherback. Let them be for a while and let's see what the future brings.
Thanks LB.

If you were to keep the suckers and the mother dies you could keep her and grow out a forest using John Naka's epic (and famous) Goshin as inspiration (assuming Serissa take well to deadwood techniques).

Posted 5 years 1 day ago #55744Sorry, but I still do not how a forest planting of VERY large conifers can serve as inspiration for a root-connected broadleave bonsai.Bunsen33 wrote:
