Hi there 名媛直播 gurus. I'm a complete beginner to the art of the bonsai and I would be grateful for any advice you guys would be happy to share.
A friend recently bough me a tree and I noticed that it wasn't very happy and was losing leaves. I moved it to a sunny place, made sure I was watering right etc. However the leaves kept dropping. I felt it had something to do with drainage so I ended up taking the tree out of the pot and creating more space for water to drain. By this stage the bonsai was already mostly dead
I noticed a few days later a new branch sprouting from the branches. Since then lots of new branches have grown and they have grown rather long and unruly.
As I look at the tree it appears that all of the "old" branches are pretty much dead but a load of these new green shoots are growing.
I wonder if you have any tips about how I should prune and continue to care for this plant. I obviously want to nourish it back to health but don't want to mess things up by over pruning etc.
Should I remove the old branches? Should I prune the shoots? How short? Any tips are much appreciated.
Thank you!
Lisa

Your tree is very weak, not dead.
Dead trees do not sprout New branches or leaves.
This tree need to do a lot of growing before any work can be done on it. Just focus on your care and bring it back to health.

I would not trim enything for now. You never knwo what may sprout again.
That being said..Your tree is in a very dark location. It is hardly creating leaves, and just very long branches. Put it in a much brighter place.

Ok thank you! The new branches are growing super fast, they've grown a few inches in 2 weeks. But if you think best not to trim, then I won't. Thanks very much for the advice.

Thanks very much for the comment. It's actually in a super bright location with 8 windows, it's the brightest room in the house, we call it the conservatory as it's where all the plants come to heal!!!
The branches are very long indeed, that's why I was hoping to trim them. But looks like it's best to just leave it alone and let it recover.
Thanks for your help.
