Hi, So I am a newbie, and have joined in the hope i can be in contact with people that know what they are doing,
My 1st request of many would be I recently got a new tree but I am concerned about a black growth on the main stem, I have attached pic below, its Japanese maple.

Will this be okay(out grow) do i need to spry something or is it over for said tree?

That part of the stem has died after the side branch was cut off. Nothing you can do. Over time the maple will try to overgrow the dead section but this will take several years and will never smoothly heal.

Well thats a better outcome I was expecting :), thank you, as I am not expecting wonders with the tree other than learning from it, I might try to make it part of the design, was concerned about verticillium.

Cannot state it is not there. But the bark above the wound seems spotless green and as such I doubt it. Dying cambium can turn black. Compare to one of mine this fall:

That is as good a pics I can take, It looks like mine is alot more '' textured'' and not just the normal bark layer?

could be some fungal growth on the dead wood?
