Hi

I recently pruned my Japanese maple and now where I cut it, it's turning back. Is that normal? What should I do?

Assuming you keep this outside, and in south africa, probably somewhat sheltered from mid day sun. It should not be going black. If your plant is not healthy, do not trim it.
