Ficus in need of help

Hello all,
I have a ficus tree that I have owned for over a year. The tree was purchased for me as a memorial to my dog that was put to sleep, so it has massive sentimental value to me. It has happily thrived in our previous home, but with a house move, new baby and the new house needing work, the ficus has suffered. It seems to be losing its leaves at an alarming rate and I wanted to find out if I can do anything to save it.
There are two issues I've had to address, it was slightly under watered due to other distractions in life and it has not been fed as regularly as it should have. I've always had it in sunlight, but it does get less in the new house due to the direction of the house, window locations and so on.
I have fed and ever so slightly overwatered the soil (read on here as something to try to help rehydrate the soil). I have since left it but wanted to at least find out if there was more I could do to help it?
Ideally I want to re-pot it next year but when I'm happy it's healthy and not struggling.
Below are some images and as you can see I do have some small shoots on the tree but I'm also losing the small leaves that have recently appeared too.
Thank you for all your help and suggestions in advance.
Rich.

May I add I am no horticulturist and I do my best researching my own issues, but as I know these wonderful creatures need a lot of attention, especially in the UK climate, I wanted to come straight to the pros. I don't want to lose the tree and it has certainly upset me more than I thought it would. I know my questions might be very basic, but I truly appreciate any help offered.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Your ficus consists of multiple plants that are braided. You have a decorative houseplant. It's not a bonsai.
You will find bonsai pro's on this forum, but no (or not many) houseplant pro's.
Have a look here, for causes and solutions for problems with ficus:

It is hard to tell from your picture but it looks like the soil does not properly adsorb water at the moment. THat is one thing to fix. I typically use handwarm watering. This has a different surface tension than cold water, and is more easily taken up by dry soil. When you water, ensure you water well and get the whole rootball to take up water.
Next is light. It will need lots of light. My ficus is dormant right now, and will remain so untill the days start to clearly get longer, and sun comes back (I think we have not had proper sun here for a few weeks).
Check the leaves. Are there small (<1mm) insects on the leaves? It looks like you MIGHT have thrips. But it can just be old leaves being a bit dusty and worn.
