I have this three for at least 4 years.
Tried everything; repotted, defoliated, put it inside a tent for 6 months, made it suffer by underwatering it, left it outside in full sun, in dappled shade, indoors, and..
Nothing.
It grows leggy, it doesn't thicken the trunk, it refuses to throw out aerial roots, the small beautiful leaves after every year's defoliation are soon big and ugly..
Any hints, guys?
I know, it's almost a mallsai and not worth the effort, but as it was a gift from my daughter I don't feel like giving up.
It has a nice (hidden here) nebari. Should I chop it down and start all over again?

Which species of ficus is it? Looks a little like benjamina?

It's a Microcarpa (old Retusa), tiger bark.
The other mystery that has been bothering me is that after the humidity tent period, 6 months, the bark lost the stripes and it doesn't look like tiger bark anymore.

OK, as you are brazilian I do not think I need to tell you that ficus likes lots of water, fertilizer and sun right? Have you tried just being really nice to it in that respect? Getting it adjusted to loads of sun. Watering with fertilizer every week (And general water whenever needed)? And just letting it grow?

I had one of them, and mine positively exploded every summer and I fertilized like crazy. But yes. That does mean large leaves..

And I would cut branches drastically, shortening all the long stuff and removing all the growing tips: when it was very strong in summer. THat would give a profusion of back-budding.
