Hi there,
I have a ginko that I found root bound in a small bonsai pot but wasn’t ready to be displayed like that yet so I have re potted it into a bigger black plastic pot with good soil leaving it in filtered light for a week so far but the leaves are yellowing. Could this just be stress from trimming some roots (it was minimal) and I also cut back some foliage. I’ve never owned a ginko so any help is appreciated Thanks

You didn't tell where you are located, but my guess is it's winter.

Oops sorry I’m in south east Queensland, Australia
It’s sub tropical and summer but not too hot for this time of year. About 26-29 degrees or 82 ish Fahrenheit

So you are right, it shouldn't be yellowing.
Main culprits usually are under or overwatering.

Of course, repotting while in full leaf might ne a part of the problem here..
Keep moderatly moist, out of drying wind and hot sun and hope for the best, I would say.
