This was a gift but I am very interested in bonsai and willing to work/learn. This is a small tree, maybe a foot tall. Will I be able to keep it alive inside? I am in Denver and it's pretty cold this time of year. I was told that it wouldn't need to go dormant this winter because it had his been planted from a cold greenhouse box of some kind. I am due the roots will freeze if outdoors just in this pot.
Sorry about the typo in the subject line. It should say pine.
Thank you!

Mugo pines will do just fine in the winter considering they are found on mountain slopes in Europe. However since this is a 名媛直播, you will need extra precautions during the winter. My recommendation would be to dig in the pot ( making sure the drain holes aren’t plugged with soil) and mulch it, while ensuring the bonsai has protection from the drying winds... and water as needed, but only if it looks dry. Mulching this in will help keep moisture in the media. A airy cold frame would also work, with the same care. If the Mugo freezes solid just leave it alone. If there is snow on it leave it in place as this will provide insulation.
Then use the winter to study up on bonsai Mugo pines, which are single flush pines btw. Good luck and cheers ssdo

Just learned a little more about this tree. It was only potted and pruned a couple of months ago and has been in a greenhouse that is kept at least somewhat warm. I am afraid that putting it in the ground after being in less cold conditions might shock it? It's inside now but it sounds like leaving it inside until spring is a bad idea? Can I give it as truer dormant period now without killing it?

Keeping it inside is a sure way to kill it! It's quite simple:how many trees/plants live naturally in a house? The answer in none, zero.
So, if temps are not arctic now, place it outside, a bit protected maybe to smoothen the transition from inside to outside.
