Hello everyone, I am a collector of succulents, cacti and carnivorous plants, and have never had a bonsai, until today! My friend decided to get me one for an early xmas present. I have had a quick peek at care sheets online, but am i punching above my weight here? And does this look like a healthy plant to start with? Does it need shaping? Its on a south facing window sill and i have plenty of rain water that i use for my plants. Any tips etc would be really appreciated.

Lucy, it looks underpotted to me.
Either the roots need a trim or it needs a deeper pot.
But don't repot it in early winter.

Hi thanks fot your reply, I did think it looked abit crammed in there. So if i repot in spring, for now is it the small soft roots that are appearing on the surface that I can trim? Also, is it best on a south facing windowsill, is north facing too shaded for it?

Best south faced window and as humid as possible, being indoors.

Hi, welcome.
So you can look closely at care instructions: Ligustrum sinense, or, a chinese privet.
