I purchased this tree while visiting Japan. The shop that sold it did not speak english. Can anyone tell me what it is so I can properly take care of it.

Thanks I will research that. I thought they said the word cypress, but there are multiple kinds of cypress, and I dont see any that look like this. Maybe cus its so young

Well, that gives an indication. Could be a Japanese ceder / Cryptomeria Japonica.
Based on the photo it's impossible to tell though, you'd need to post a better one.
Trees belong outdoors.

Hi, could it be a Chamaecyparis Obtusa Sekka? It is also known as Hinoki Cypress...
I've got a very young one and from your pics (though hard to tell for sure) the leaves seems quite similar.
