Hello!
I got a ficus ginseng bonsai tree this summer and some time after I got it, it started shedding its leaves. This happened for about two months or so. Then it stopped shedding leaves but it never grew back most of the leaves it lost. It keeps getting those little green soon-to-be leaves, but they turn black before they even grow to beacome actual leaves. This is happening to half of the tree while the rest is alright.
I water it once a week and keep it near a window which I daily open. It doesn't seem to have any insects on it or in its trunk.
What could be the problem with it? Is it watering, is it the lighting, the temperature?

I think you were misinformed: your plant has nothing to do with bonsai, so you probably will get a better answer on a common houseplant forum

I dont really think that's the case since it does look like a ficus ginseng bonsai. Here's a photo of my plant and another bonsai I found on the internet.

...it is not because something is sold or advertised as bonsai that it is one...
What you have there is big root with another sort of ficus grafted on top which is mass produced and sold as bonsai-which it isn't...
Do a search for the term "mallsai".

Many tropical tree species don't take well to changes in their environment. Like plants from temperate and cold regions of the planet need seasons to survive. or a fish needs water.. or a dog needs air.

It looks like the plant is in a tea pot. Does it have drainage holes? If not, that would explain a lot of problems.
