Worst case you just have a stick without any roots in a pot ( it does happen...)
Remove the rocks ( they might be glued) ) and just wait, keep watering and no fertiliser!!

The glued upon rocks are effecitvely put there for decoration. They are glued for transport: They will not fall off and the plant stays in place.
For the rest, nothing wrong with the plant in itself. People however get a plant that is used to warm tropical moist conditions and bring it home into their house where the air is dry.. The leaves turn crispy. I have a number of BRazilian Raintrees that I had outside. Now that they are indoors for 2 weeks all leaves are dropping. The plants adjusting.
However, if you then add that people often water the plants wrong, you get to a tree that is about to die VERY quickly. It is not (just) the way they are sold. It is also inability of people. But of course, that is an impopular opinion. Poeple never want to hear they might have done something wrong. So you get claims of plants that are sold without roots. Which I personally do not believe happens on any realistic scale.
