Maybe it wasn't clear, but I did agree with you.
I did write the bonsai wasn't toast. The Pyracantha, however, is.

So I promised myself I would never again be direct when dead trees turned up.

Oh no, I did not mean your post. I just notice on this forum lately that if you tell people that yeah, it can be safed, you get people to "like" your post. If instead you actually are factual in your responses, do not go on long syories why it might be safed, your posts are not appreciated.

This is true, but I'm not sure if it is new. People often don't like hearing the truth. The likes go to 'Yes, that's an awesome tree you bought at Lowes', 'wow, that's an amazing job wiring and shaping it, I really like the symmetrical S-shape' and 'Sure, you repotted, trained, pruned, wired and fertilized it and you did it all in the wrong season, but it looks very cute and I'm sure your seedling will become an awesome bonsai' kind of answers.
Some people call that a positive approach.

I guess it is more honest and useful to simply say "Sorry, the tree is dead."
But people take it personally as a "failure" and get offended by the statement.
As I am NOT after "likes" (that is why I left Facebook for good) and I don't want to be considered the ugly messenger of bad news, I'll refrain from posting on dead trees, unless I happen to be in a good ironical mood. Which is very rare.
