I got a bonsai tree as a gift around 1month ago.
Firstly, I believe it is a Chinese elm but could someone please clarify.
In the last two weeks some leaves turned yellow and fell off but there were new shoots coming through.
Following this the ends of the green leaves were turning black and smaller leaves turned black and fell off.
The most concerning part is new shoots are turning brown before they become leaves.
Some background information
The tree is kept inside next to the window.
I water the tree when the soil looks dry
I have recently moved house in the past 3 weeks meaning the tree has changed location 3 times in the last 2 months (shop, first house and second house).
In the UK it is now autumn so the outside weather has changed.
Can anyone help me? I have attached pictures of my tree.
Any advise is greatly appreciated!
As a first time bonsai tree owner I am open to reccomendations to guides and videos to further my knowledge.

Hi, and very welcome to this forum. Great to see you started with this hobby. What a cute little tree you have there!
May I kindly point out though that there are... well... numerous beginners that have asked the exact same questions, even quite recently, and that such questions have been answered a lot of times?
Would it be too much to ask if you could please have a look through this forum, and, if it 's not to much to ask, use the Search feature?
Let us know if that works out for you!
Thanks!

Thank you for your reply, after looking through the forum I saw not so many answers but alot of unfriendlyness between people.
As we all have the same passion for our miniature trees I was not expecting such a negative output with budding enthusiasts.
I would still like advice on my matter as I don't like to spend my time scrolling through negativity.
Maybe I need to look in other places where people are not made to feel targeted for the pursuit of a healthy bonsai.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Some people have found it necessary to bring up the way certain people respond to posts, which has brought up some heated discussions. Don't pay attention to that. there are countless replies to your questions that do give the correct information that you are looking for.

Errm... no, not exactly. Lots of bonsai growers do have a passion for miniature trees, but they do not like the mallsai industry.

Growing bonsai takes lots of work! It does take time to find the right answers as well.
In your case, unfortunately, we are not talking about bonsai. It 's not an old tree that has been shaped by a bonsai artist. It is not in a bonsai pot. It is not in bonsai soil. And... it's not at the right location.
What you do have is a cheap reproduction of a bonsai. A young tree, made to look like a bonsai, rather than a tree made to look like a real tree in nature. The pot is not a bonsai pot. It's an elm, and it needs to be outdoors.
Your tree is not doing well for many reasons. It's not in the right climate, the right pot, the right soil, and it has moved to different climates in a short time, making it have to adjust several times.
I would like to recommend you to learn about growing trees first. Then start learning about bonsai.
Maybe I need to look in other places where people are not made to feel targeted for the pursuit of a healthy bonsai.
Maybe you shouldn't go to Wallmart if you want to buy a real Japanese kimono.

This is the exsact behaviour I previously mentioned, this was an unnecessary comment, as previously stated my tree was a gift and I am a beginner.
I'm feel sorry that you have to make people feel bad who're simply seeking help.

Auk if it's so hard for you to tell the same advice to new users 3 times at day, without telling it in a negative way. Why do you keep respond to those questions then? You are scaring people away! There are so MANY new members that complain about you in the threads. I don't think so MANY users are the problem, i think you are! So my advice for you are: if you are tired of telling thesame advice for the 1000th time. Then don't. Let someone else tell the advice. A forum like bonsainut dosen't have all this negativity even though they get all the same stupid questions as in here. But people on bonsainut respond to new people in a good tone. Think about that Auk!

@Luke; if you have specific questions, feel free to post them here. But you can also start reading a bit on our site, so you can specify your questions a lot better. Perhaps start your quest here: www.bonsaiempire.com/tree-species/chinese-elm
