What’s wrong with my bonsai?

My bonsai is turning brown in patches. It looks like the trunk is falling apart and branches are shriveling up. At first I thought it had gnats and treated it. Since then I have not seen anything else going on. Can someone provide me with more information?

The glued on pebbles and moss stop you from seeing the soil and limit your ability to water. Also, it seems to be inside? This is killing your tree.
Remove the decorations. Put it outside. If you pray, pray.

There also seems to be some sort of fungus or mold growing on one of your branches. I'd do as leatherback says, remove the moss and stupid pebbles and then take it to a local nursery and see if they can identify the mold...
(Your tree is also most likely already dead)

Thank you for the feedback! I keep it outside, just moved it under the canopy to take pictures. Maybe it’s not getting enough light in its usual home?

Or maybe it was a stick with less or no roots at all, planted in pour soil with glued pebbels......and then put onto a shipping container with no Light at all for a month or two.
Anyway, the cause is less interesting than the solution. There you already have good answers. But be prepared that it might be doomed already.

Is there a hole in the bottom of the container? You need to clean and clear the surface of the pebbles and moss, prune the dead bits, see if the water is running through when watered do not fertilise or treat for problems that are not there Water when needed not to schedule and wait, and hope it survives.
