Aleppo Pine smells bad and is dry/brown! was created by AleppoPineGuy

Hi everyone, I have been gifted a young Aleppo pine. I feel like it's a watering issue, but there is a bad smell from the upper branches (not the soil). The tree has obviously had some watering neglect as there is barely any green left in the needles. What should I do? Can it be saved?

It had new growth this summer but apparently hasn't been looking good the past month or two, I was given it recently to see if I could resuscitate it. I guess it's probably too far gone at this point.

Trees die on the inside months before they show they're dead on the outside.
For instance. I have a deadtree on my patio right now but it looks alive. The way I know its dead is because I overworked it by pruning, shaping, and repotting all at once. Three months later it has slowly dropped pine needles and started to turn brown at the edges.
Is there hope for it? Probably not because it's dead and I'm not a necromancer.
TLDR: Trees die before they show they're dead.
