Hey everyone I was just wondering if someone could identify what is or might be happening to my maples. I'm not sure if its nitrogen burn or something else. One is a Fire Glow and the other is a Mikawa Yatsubusa. I keep them in partial sun on my deck and watered daily.

Those leaves are a sign of overwatering.

mm, I was about to say too dry. Certainly the red one, but it is nothing to do with nitrogen

No no no.
The text in the picture is taken from a bonsai book written in danish. It says:
Maple leaves die at the top:
The most common cause is standing water in the pot. The tree needs less water or repotting

Unlikely. That looks like free draining soil. There wiill be no standing water. Leaves look scorched, probably too much sun and/or not enough moisture.

The problem is definitely not lack of water. I just bought a red acer palmatum in a supermarket. The place where I bought the plant had placed the plants in one large dish. We just had rain for 14 days. So the plants were in standing water and the soil was very wet. The leaves on these maples look exactly the same. I can post a picture tomorrow. Maples leaves that had too much sun don't look like that and neither do maples leaves that needs water. I tried both with maples. I own alot of them.
So my advice: water only when the soil is dry. I'm 100 procent sure the problem is overwatering.

The problem is not overwatering. The trees are not in standing water.
I think they do.

Looks to me like there where some hot days, and the roots did not provide enough water to the leaves, so the tips wil dry out of the leaves.

Do you really think overwatering only can happening when the tree is in standing water? The guy says that he water every day. I dont think the soil drys between watering. And that can course overwatering.
This is how it look when a maples leaves are sunburnt:
The picture i posted is how my new maple looks like, is has also been overwatered.
End of discussion.

I would also say sunburn.... my maples, which got burnt by the heat here look like these. If the soil these trees are in, is as it appears to be, it would be very difficult to overwater them or rateher nearly impossible...
