Water Jasmine Dying

I purchased a water jasmine about 18 months ago with a small amount of deadwood on its main trunk. The dead wood area has been steadily increasing and I have lost a large branch in the back. I checked the tree for the need of a re-pot and found an area of what appeared to be root rot on the back side( same as where the branch died ). I removed the potentially rotten area and re potted in fast draining boon mix soil. The tree has continued its decline and is losing its top branch now and the deadwood area increasing still. The deadwood area has not been treated as of yet. I am kind of new to bonsai and not sure if this is natural progression or did i not clean enough rotten root away. I live in NC where it has been quite hot and I keep the tree in full to partial full sun all day watering once a day and checking soil with a moisture gauge. I am at a losss right now so ANY help would be greatly appreciated !

Bob,
Deadwood shouldn't increase so fast, and dying branches are not an usual thing.

Any thoughts ? Did I not get all the dead root mass off ? Should I up root it again and check to make sure ? Shoiuld I chemically treat it for fungus/mold ? Should I treat the deadwood ? I am at a loss

Not sure what a water jasmin is..
Is this inside our outside?
I would NOT repot. Let the tree grow. Give it the right treatment; Check ideal growing conditions for your species. Stop fiddling with it. Most likely your cleaning to roots damaged the tree more.
