Im a novice with bonsai but my girlfriend bought me a ficus retusa before christmas and the apex of the tree died so Im left with two handle bars and was wondering if you have a video or some guidance on how to restore the flow of the tree trunk and to get growth at the top of the trunk again really wanted to keep this tree for as long as possible and try and make it a bit of a spectacle. plus I defoliated the tree hoping to get some new growth as it was very sparse and went to the local bonsai shop for some advice but he was very rude and angry and didn't give me any advice other than to bend the branch up to form a new trunk in spring and to leave well alone. What would be the best way to approach this technique.

I think it looks very unique the way it is. It reminds me Hela from Thor Ragnarok.

Defoliation on ficus nly works if the tree is VERY healthy AND if you cut the tips off the branches, neither of which was the case for you tree which is why it did not respond.
Wire one of the branches up as new trunk. Let it explode with growth for the rest of the year. Next year, mid-spring, look at your options.

Thanks you mean do this in the spring or now? Someone else recommended me to grow the two branches out until tree gain vigour then chop then right back and that will cause many new branches to grow and then I could grow it into more of a banyan style whatever that is

That is your main concern for the next few months. The rest is not relevant at this moment.
