Squirrels, we love them we hate them.

Today I hate them the little S@&#'s are digging up my bonsai trees and I'm about to start hunting them if I cant get them to stop. I went out today and saw that they dug up one of my oaks and my wisteria.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can keep them out of my pots?

Yikes... :/
Fresh peppermint & Hot pepper in dry or cooked cream form works in majority, but not 100%.
My Dad made me a mixture from Fox blood and spoiled egg white. I never saw a single squirrel with that mix in charge, but it smells like hell...

Oh, daddy, so mean! Kills a fox to not kill a squirrel!

Haha, Fox blood is a rare commodity, isn’t it? ;)
He thought me: Every living thing is precious and important. As a forest ranger he kept control on the red fox population.
I remember, he told me the squirrels sense the predator and won’t approach the area. I think, it must work with a living pet Fox also, but not everybody ready to adopt a hurricane.

Another suggestion.

Get a pack of bamboo hibachi skewers. They are a buck or so for a package of a couple of hundred. Stick them point upwards an inch or so apart around the pots edge. Break them off so the part sticking up is around two inches or 5 cm high.

They will try to get in and poke the pointed edge into their stomach, losing interest fast. Check them every day because they move the sticks around while learning. It worked for me.

I was having this problem with a select few of our trees at our last house on a daily basis (although it could have been squirrels, raccoons, feral-ish cats, opossums, mice, rats, etc). We tried the skewers/chop stick idea and it didn't do much for the potted plants - it did keep the hood cats from sleeping in our raised beds through. In the end I basically made a cage around the pots with wire that formed a 2-3cm grid across the top of the pot and twisted as many of the wire intersections as possible so the animals couldn't easily push the wire to the side and get to the substrate and roots. It kind of looks like the pots have been gift wrapped with wire as the ribbon, if that makes sense. We haven't had a problem since. Plus they stopped knocking over other plants to get to the ones they wanted to dig up.

I wish I could just toss out some sticky paper but then I'd have to peel them off and then shave them to get the sticky crap out of their fur.... but then again it would be pretty funny watching naked squirrels running around the yard haha

Maybe an idea to make a metal mesh around the trunk of the tree.
So they can't dig anymore in the soil.

Does not look good, but it does the trick.

I tried cutting a piece of heavy screen with pieces sticking up, thinking the wires would be discouraging. I was right. They really discouraged me from handling it.
