Hey, Dominic, welcome.
Your tree doesn't have the characteristics of a bonsai yet.
Even the pot is too big.
Congrats for keeping it healthy for such a long time!
Please take look and click on the link below, maybe it can be helpful:

How can you grow a bonsai if you don't know what a bonsai is?
Please start at the top of this page: "What is bonsai".
What you have looks like a common houseplant, is in soil for common houseplants and is in a pot for common houseplants. It's not a bonsai, it's a houseplant.

Not really, it's a houseplant that can be turned into a bonsai if you know how to do bonsai.dominic wrote: this is not a overgrown 名媛直播?

okay well that's why I started to ask questions. I have never seen a houseplant with such a large trunk at the bottom.
But anyway, what are my first steps into transforming it back to a bonzai...
When I first bought it, it was one of those just add ice bonzai..but it continues to grow and I would like to learn how to bring it back to form. I would like to purchase another one eventually.

I read " What is a bonsai" and take away from it that my pot is way to big and that the leaves are overgrown.
So what are my next steps..
this bonzai I bought as a little just add ice bonzai from the supermarket. I would like to bring it back to its form. It is very large now and continuing to grow

Well, first of all, you will have to trim it back.
Prune it hard, in fact.
Then, if it still healthy and shooting new growth, wire it.
In late winter/beginning of the spring, repot it into new good draining soil, trimming the roots.
Pruning them hard, in fact.
Then, if it still healthy and shooting new growth, fertilize it and keep trimming it to shape.
In mid-summer, IF IT IS VERY HEALTHY, defoliate it.
Fertilize in the Autumn. Stop fertilising in winter.
After a few years it will start to look like a bonsai.
