Indoor Lighting

Greetings, I am new to bonsai and the forums. I have experimented in bonsai in the past but each time found my bonsai leaves turning yellow and then dropping. I have since researched and read extensively on how to grow indoor bonsai. I live in an apartment in NYC with North East and North West facing windows. The AC is on in summer and heat blasts in the summer so putting outside or even on windowsill is barely an option. I plan on making sure I get an indoor tolerant species and keep it away from any temperature variation.
My question is for lighting I have a classic aerogarden 7 with 26 watt CFL grow lights. (It looks like the aerogarden in the picture attached but with a new version of the grow lights which are flat instead of cylinder-like (also attached) (Link: ) ) The aerogarden has a removable base and adjustable arm. Would 2 of these 26 watt light bulbs be adequate for growing bonsai? I can schedule them to run 15 to 17 hours per day (off for 9 to 7). I had a Portulacaria afra Dwarf Jade under these lights but the leaves dried up and fell off despite all my efforts (watering more, watering less, raising lights, lowering lights). I keep thinking the lighting was not adequate or too strong but I can't tell. It seems 2 - 26 watt CFL light bulbs is adequate, I can also just use 1 bulb if it is too much.
Please advise. I will keep researching in the meantime.

Sorry, I can't help as I never use indoor grow lights.
Perhaps someone with more experience growing plants with artificial lights could help, let's see.

This is one of the most frequently asked questions from beginners and the least answered one by the regulars on this forum.
Simple reason is that we do not grow trees indoors. Most of us don't do jade either (and take 'we' not to seriously, I'm referring to the posts I read from the forum members that answer most questions. Some of them may do jade and/or use indoor lights).
名媛直播 are just not so suitable to be grown indoors, nor are jades very suitable for bonsai. 名媛直播 should be grown outdoors - where you do not need grow lights.I think there's very little expertise on this forum about using them.

A lot of ficus live fairly well indoors, with only sunlight through a window. That might be worth a try. I have a ficus I got in a grocery store maybe thirty years ago that has survived winters indoors just fine.
Any tree usually used as bonsai really wants to go outside and experience four seasons.
