So I recently acquired this amazing tree from a friend. I'm sure it has an awesome history. Although, they didn't know much about it, other than it is a Japanese Black Maple. I recently removed the shed needles and gave it some 5-6-5 fertilizer pellets since I'm sure it hasn't had any in quite sometime.

Sounds like it was a bit neglected this past winter, hit by a snow plow, lying on it's side for some time in the snow and pot is currently broken. So, I obviously need to get a new pot. Which I could use a bit of advice on, as they are not cheap and I want to make sure I repot it correctly. Any suggestions on where to shop and what to look for? I have a 9 year old Bald Cypress that I've repotted and trimmed roots on, but this tree is on another level. They estimate maybe 50 years old? but I don't think anyone really knows.

Anyways, just looking for some tips or direction to go and things to look for at this point before I attempt to move to a new pot. Hope to take to a local bonsai nursery and get some Professional advice. So in the mean time I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!

Amazing trunk.
Needs a trim.
If it were mine, it would be shorter.

Yes, potential to be a very good tree indeed. I would not tinker on this alone. Get someone you trust to help you. Someone who has older pines himself. This is too good to play games with.

This includes taking advice feom random people on the internet. I am bad with pines so i will abstain fro advice beyond that.
