White Marks on Trunk

Hi there, I have severe white marks on my bonsai trunks (Dawn Redwoods).
I believe it may be calcium or a build up of some other substance contained in the water I'm using.
For many many months now I have been extremely careful not to wet the trunks whilst watering (hoping that these marks would go away) but they remain as prominent as ever.
I am not in a position where I'm able to collect rainwater or buy specialised water, I can however continue to water them without wetting the trunks which I know is good practice anyway.
I'm just lost now for ways to remove this build up. I have tried lightly scrubbing with a toothbrush (water and white vinegar solution) but this has pretty much zero effect.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks

The calcium you will get through water being pulled up anyway.
Not sure what to do against it.

I have tried a toothbrush with diluted vinegar and...
A flop.
Still white and it damaged the bark.
So, same problem here but no solution.
