Ginseng Ficus: Are these pests, growths or something else? was created by flyingfishfinger

Hi,
My tree still isn't growing too well at all. It's attempting to push a lot of new buds, but they seem to be dying not very long after the appear and even before they form leaves.

I've spotted these things scattered around the trunk of the tree, they look like seed pods of some kind, or they could be insects (?). Most of them just fall off when prodded and they don't appear to be alive. There's also the single black one in the middle of the photo which looks slightly different, that one I haven't seen before.

Any clue what these are, and if they're harmful / should be removed?

Thanks,
R

Use tweezers and take them off. Spray the tree with a mild insecticide soap and wait a few days.

They look like bugs to me:

- Scale bug and
- Thrips

(not sure if it's thrips)
