Not uncommon to have spring appear, leaves come out, then a week later a hard freeze comes through. The trees out in the woods have roots stuck in a large heat sink - the earth. The roots in pots sitting up in the air have wind blowing through and the roots can freeze pretty fast. A tree sitting on a window ledge would be pretty vulnerable. I put mine inside the unheated garage two days once this year and four days another time.

Some places the weather may be predictable and this may not happen. We get pretty wide swings.
