Hello - My Ficus bonsai tree is not doing well! I live in Connecticut and currently, the tree is in my house, next to a cracked window (at times). Since I do not receive adequate sunlight, I supplement with artificial light for 6-8 hours a day. I was told by the store I purchased the plant at to use 5 ice cubes a week for watering. Can anyone provide advise on how I can save my bonsai tree? Attached is an image of the tree in its current state.MUCH APPRECIATED!!!
Thanks,
Dan

Sorry, Dan, but this was a prank on you in two acts:Dan Miller wrote: I was told by the store I purchased the plant at to use 5 ice cubes a week for watering.
1-This plant is not a bonsai.
2- This is not the way to water a plant in a pot. Especially a Ficus, unless the ice cubes were big enough to hold 1 gallon of water inside each one. Not practical, right?

Ficus is a tropical plant. So you need to ensure they stay warm they do not like draft, so keeping it next to an open window is not ideal.
When watering use water ideally at room temperature, and water the plant well. It will then take a number of days for the soil to dry again. Once the surface is slightly dry, water again.
Sunlight heat and a stable growing environment are the key.

Hi Dan. It looks as if your ficus is planted in sphagnum moss. This is something you might find an orchid growing in but for a ficus you should have a more free draining compost.

Probably that's just the top layer, added there to make it look more decorative.
