Hello, I have a few alibrizia julibrissin trees that I started from seed at least 5 years ago. Around here, EastNC, they are called mimosa, and have great smelling, beautiful looking flowers.
This year I started pruning and training them in a bonsai fashion (I have some experience with espalier of fruit trees). I'm also hoping for them to flower.
I worry, however, that it's possible I prune off flower buds, so I want to ask if anyone knows where on the tree the flowers form, and when. From pictures it seems that it is at the base of the leaves. I have seen some fine hairs at the base of mine.
I have found one or two trees in public that I will watch as this season continues, but if I can get my small ones to flower this year it would be great.
Thanks in advance.
