This happened for the second time!

Basically woke up one morning and found the little guy on the right looking like it was cut at the base. Then woke up today to find the empty pot on the left with no bonsai! Can't even find the stem in the pot.

What's going on? Heavy wind? Critters? I'm on a fire escape, not much can really access it.

ALSO, if a stem is turning a dark red brownish color, is that bad or good? If bad, how can i help?

It must have been said before but we are not talking about bonsai, but about seedlings.
They're small. An animal may have gotten curious and pulled it out. A bird maybe. Who knows.
