I've got a bonsai tree from a neighbor that moved out. It doesn't have any leaves, thus I can't identify it. Maybe there are experts with a long time experience that can guess the kind just from the stalk without foliage?

Probably not, unless when it's a Ginseng, and certainly not without a picture.

Maybe. It would however start with showing a clear, well-focussed picture

Here is a picture. I added it to the initial message as well; have no idea why it didn't work. Sorry :)

I am tempted to say boxwood, but I am absolutely not certain.

Hart to tell from your picture. Are you sure it is alive? The trunk looks a bit shrivelled..?

hm, also hard to tell, but I received it just maybe a week ago and didn't notice any new buds.
I think the previous owner overwatered it way too much, as the soil stung very badly. So I cleaned it from the soil completely, washed the roots and let it stay in the fungicide for more than an hour, then planted it in seramis, so the water is drained better. The roots seemed to be still alive...
I also have a Chinese elm from him. It had some leaves, so I could identify it, although they were completely dry and the tree overwatered as well. Is there some hope that they will regrow?
The bark on this one looks very very similar to boxwood, so I think you're right! Thanks for help:)

Personally, I would not use fungicide on roots. Roots live together with a range of fungi, and killing them off makes it harder for plants to re-establish themselves. Normally you would trim away dead roots and ensure proper growing conditions. Root rot is not caused by fungi, but rather, the rotting is the result of dead roots being present. Normally due to improper care (Under/over watering, frost damage etc).
