I think I already know the answer but I’d like to ask the forum before i toss this poor tree out. I got a cherry blossom tree from my wife about 1.5years ago. She purchased it from an online retailer during the winter so the tree came without it’s leaves. When spring time came last year, it never sprouted so I figured we must have gotten it DOA but just didn’t know. I emailed the company who sold it and they said sometimes this can happen so I decided I’ll hang onto my probably dead tree and see if anything happens this spring. There were buds but they looked bad, like a fungus got it so i snipped them off hoping maybe that would help. What’s strange is the branches are still a quite limber and flexible. If it was dead, shouldn’t they be briittle by now? Can this tree still be dormant for some strange reason? I’m 99% sure it’s dead but my wife paid good money for this tree and I’m sad to toss it out having never gotten to see it wake up even once.

Does not look dead to me. Are the branches wrinkled? Or more shiny and "full". in case of the latter, the tree it no dead (yet).

Dappled shade, keep moist, but never wet. Wait.

The branches actually seem quite alright, shiny reddish color, very pliable. I’ve kept it in an area with dappled sunshine for a quite a long time. It’s just very strange to me but I have decided to move it into more sun to see if that will wake the tree up. It’s too bad, my wife paid good money for the tree 2 years ago.
