Hi.
I dug up an old Ligustrum and made a trunk chop.
The small shoots on the picture, were on the trunk before it was cut. No new growth has yet come. The small shoots were initially green and fine. But they have started to dry and change color.
I had initially put it in the sun a few hours a day. The shoots started to dry and the trunk looks more dry than on the picture. Then I placed the tree in shade. I also read that it should be placed in shade after repot and trunk chop.
Where should it be placed to get new growth? In the shade or the sun?
When can I start fertilizing? The tree had lots of roots.
Thank you.

If you placed it recently in the bucket. No fertilizer and in the shade. Don't forget to put some holes in the bottom of the bucket.

Thank you.
I made lots of holes in the button of the bucket.
I hope it won't be a problem it has been placed in the sun the first 2 weeks after repot. The tree looks a little dry (the picture is 2 weeks old).
When can I expect new growth?

Depends on your weather; It needs to be srpingtime. Ligustrum has not really started to grow in my whereabouts.
Then it needs to set buds after you attacked it.
I would not worry for the next month if nothing obvious grows

Don't worry, ligustrum is almost impossible to kill. Give it some time, don't fiddle with it too much!

Thank you for your answers.
I have now placed the tree in the shade. And will do what you told and wait for the new growth.
Spring has almost started here. We had 19C celsius today.
I posted some new pictures of the tree from today. Sorry for the bad quality.
-Should I worry about the trunk and some of the leaves are brown/dry looking, compared with the first pictures I posted? Is the tree dying?
-Should I worry about placing the tree out of sunlight in the shade, when it has been placed in the sun the last couple of weeks?
-Fiddle, do you mean feed or what does that mean?
Thank you

Does not look like ligustrum. More likely, buxus spp.
In any case. Leave it alone. Do not move it, dig for roots, scratch the bark, etcetc. Just water sparingly (Drier is better than too wet, yet never fully dry; Note that substrate can be wete even if the top of the soil looks dry)

You're probably right about the species. Ligustrum were my best guess.
I actually found a buxus in my neighborhood. And it looks much healthier than mine. That's why I was concerned.

again, it is spring. You are asking a tree to grow new roots and new growing tips in a period where temps are low. This takes time. Should be fine. I have dug these, and kept them in dappled shade to recover.
